We need to toughen up - Nolan

Newcastle United, 09:54, March 23, 2009 ,

Midfielder Kevin Nolan is confident Newcastle can avoid relegation but called on his team-mates to be more 'ruthless' in games.

The former Bolton man, who joined the Magpies in the January transfer window, returned from a three-match suspension in Saturday's 3-1 defeat against Arsenal which left them in the third relegation spot and two points off safety.
Newcastle's Obafemi Martins missed a first half penalty, while other chances went begging as the Gunners turned on the style after the break to claim the points and make it five games without a win for the Tynesiders.
However Nolan feels they can still survive this season but must start adopting a tougher approach in matches.
"It's down to us now to start being ruthless, ruthless with each other and against teams," he said.
"But the lads are up for the fight and certainly, I believe we have got enough in the changing room and I don't believe we will go down.
"Even though we are in a sticky situation at the moment, I am 100 per cent positive that we will still be in the Premier League come the end of the season."
