Chris Hughton has confirmed that Russell Martin suffered a back injury at Aston Villa ahead of Norwich's League Cup tie with Tottenham.
The Canaries boss watched as his side battled to a 1-1 draw at Villa on Saturday as they took advantage of having an extra man during the second half to secure an equaliser as Michael Turner cancelled out Christian Benteke's first half opener. Hughton was disappointed that his side did not go on to claim a second successive Premier League win, while he also revealed that defender, Martin, picked up a back problem which forced him off at half time at Villa Park. He is likely to be one absentee as the former Birmingham boss plans to make a few changes to his squad for the Capital One Cup tie against Spurs at Carrow Road on Wednesday. On Martin, Hughton told the Evening News 24: "He just felt it and certainly with the back it just tends to go into a little bit of a spasm. "I have got options midweek and let's hope he is okay. I have to say Ryan [Bennett], even though I know he wasn't under as much pressure with the ten men, I thought he did well." He added: "I've got a lot of faith in the squad we've got and the competition we've got, and when I have players that are chomping at the bit to play, the difficulty I have in picking the team and leaving players out, at times you've got to look for those opportunities and I will look for that on Wednesday."
