Norwich goalkeeper Mark Bunn has been asked to consider playing for Giovanni Trapattoni's Republic of Ireland.

The 27-year-old was born in Southgate, London but qualifies to play for the Republic through his father and grandmother. Trapattoni is keen to increase competition for the Irish number one jersey after Shay Given retired from international duty in the summer. Sunderland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood featured in goal during the recent international games against Kazakhstan and Oman. Bunn, who has previously played at Northampton and on loan at Sheffield United, left Blackburn for Norwich in the summer. He has returned to full fitness after a hip injury and will battle John Ruddy for the gloves at Carrow Road this season.
