Chris Hughton is delighted to seal a deal for Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong after he joined Norwich on a three-year deal.

The Canaries chief wasted no time in further bolstering his defensive options in this transfer window following Saturday's dismal opening day 5-0 mauling at Fulham. And Hughton returned to his former club Spurs to snap up 26-year-old Bassong, who spent the second half of last season on loan at relegated Wolves, for an undisclosed fee. And he has backed the player to help boost competition for starting places at Carrow Road. Hughton, who worked with Bassong at Newcastle before his £8million move to White Hart Lane in summer 2009, told the Norwich official website: "Sebastien is a player that I have known well since my time at Newcastle and I'm delighted to have brought in someone with the Premier League experience he has got. "He will give us power and pace at the back and again add to the competition in the squad."
