Jonny Howson believes the Norwich squad should take heart from the rise of John Ruddy to the international football scene.
The Canaries keeper has gone from playing for Wrexham and Cambridge to being selected for the England squad for Euro 2012 after a fantastic first season in the Premier League at Carrow Road.
While the shot stopper was unable to take his place in the England squad for the Euros due to injury he is expected to be involved in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Howson believes the rise to prominence of Ruddy should serve as an inspiration to his Norwich team mates and young players alike.
"If you are looking, you only have to look at John Ruddy and what he's done," Howson told the Norwich Evening News, when asked about how he hoped this season would go.
"He was unfortunate that he didn't actually go to the Euros with his injury he picked up in training. But he had a terrific season and was rewarded for it at the end of the season.
"Who knows? You never know what happens in football but first and foremost it's concentrating on Norwich and trying to get in the side for that first game of the season."
