Wes deserves Trap call - Hughton

Chris Hughton claims Norwich winger Wes Hoolahan deserves a call-up after his display in front of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni.
The Canaries' chief spoke out after Hoolahan impressed greatly in the side's 1-0 win against Arsenal at Carrow Road on Saturday evening with Trapattoni and his assistant Marco Tardelli watching on from the stand.
The Dubliner has only one cap so far in his career back in 2008 while an injury prevented him from featuring in a friendly against Serbia ahead of this current Premier League campaign.
However, following Ireland's disastrous 6-1 home defeat against Germany in a World Cup qualifier earlier this month, it seems Trapattoni is looking at players who could come in and give the squad a lift. And Hughton is in no doubt that Hoolahan deserves a chance based on his 'excellent' performance at the weekend.
Hughton told EDP 24: "People here know Wes very well from the period of time he's been here and we know what ability he's got. I don't think it would have been just this game, but they would be aware of his performances over the past few seasons.
"If he (Trapattoni) needed any clarification of that then he would have got it today.
"Yes, I have spoken to Wes about that, but it doesn't make any difference. I don't pick the team, pick the squad. I think every player wants to represent his country and I think Wes would be no different.
"I don't pick the squad, but on his performances I know what a good player he is, irrespective of any one performance, and I know what he's done at this club for the last three years."
