Deal not dead according to rivals' boss

Nottingham Forest, 19:39, January 22, 2010

Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is still hopeful of persuading Forest to part with versatile defender James Perch this month.

The Championship leaders lodged an initial approach for the 24-year-old earlier this week, described by boss Billy Davies as 'derisory'.

Davies says Perch, who has featured in Forest's last four matches, remains an integral part of his first-team plans, and will do all he can to fend off any advances.

Hughton, though, has refused to give up on the deal for the Forest ace and hopes an agreement can still be thrashed out.

"The situation with that is the club have made an official offer for him," the Magpies manager told Sky Sports News.

"It was done through the correct channels and we will see what happens."
