New signing Gary Liddle is targeting promotion with Notts County.

Liddle joined the Magpies from npower League One rivals Hartlepool on Thursday after rejecting the offer of a new contract at Victoria Park. The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal with Keith Curle's side, who narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, and hopes to help the club go one step further during the 2012/13 campaign. "I'm thrilled to be here. I knew from the first time I met the manager that I wanted to come here. It was just after I decided to leave Hartlepool - they were the first people I met," said Liddle. "I left the meeting knowing I wanted to play my football here because of the ambition of the club. "The manager wants to take the club forward and I want to play as high as I can. Hopefully we can continue from where the club ended last season because they came so close to the play-offs. "The division is going to be wide open. Hopefully we will be right up there making a push for promotion. There is no reason we can't be in the top six. This is a good club and we have a good squad. If we play well there is no reason why we shouldn't be pushing up there, not just for the play-off places but above that even."
