Arthur Abraham defeated fellow German Robert Stieglitz in Berlin on Saturday evening to become the new WBO super middleweight champion.
The 32-year-old former IBF middleweight champion recovered from a shaky start to the fight, as he was pinned back on the ropes twice in the second round, to grow stronger from the fourth round onwards and was given a unanimous points win. Two judges awarded the fight 116-112 in Abraham's favour, with the other scoring it 115-113. This has now paved the way for him to face another German, Felix Sturm. "This is an emotional moment for me and it's hard to describe how I feel," said Abraham. "I always wanted to be the middleweight world champion and now I am the super middleweight champion too. "I trained hard for this and I had to box cleverly against such a good champion."
