Calzaghe in talks to fight Dawson
Other Sports, 16:58, November 22, 2008 ,
America's Chad Dawson has claimed that his camp are in talks with Joe Calazghe, suggesting that the Welshman might not be retiring.
British radio station Talksport had reported on Thursday that the 36-year-old would not fight on after his demolition of Roy Jones Jr a fortnight ago in New York.
However, Dawson has come out and said that there have been preliminary discussions going on between the two camps.
"There's a little talk going on between the two parties," said Dawson.
"It's definitely a fight I want, it's something I've wanted since Calzaghe stepped up to light-heavyweight."
Unbeaten Dawson is little-known outside of boxing but is current IBF light-heavyweight champion and holds victories over Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson.
Dawson's manager Mike Criscio says that Calazghe is definitely not retiring and that he would be happy to talk his client across the Atlantic to the UK, with the Millennium Stadium a possible destination.
"He's definitely not retiring," said Dawson's manager Criscio. "And we'd go to the UK in a heartbeat. In front of 72,000 people in Wales, that would be a great fight."
