Andre Ward retained his WBA and WBC super-middleweight titles with a 10th round stoppage of challenger Chad Dawson.
The 28-year-old, who beat Britain's Carl Froch in November 2011, comfortably defeated his 30-year-old American rival in Oakland to record his 26th succcessive victory and also kept his unbeaten record intact.
The result was never in doubt as Ward put his opponent down in the third and fourth rounds before Dawson signalled that he wanted to stop after narrowly beating the count following another knockdown in the 10th.
Speaking after his first fight stoppage in three years, Ward said: "These kinds of fights, you've got to take risks. You can mess around and lose your title to a fighter of that calibre.
"I love to win. Finishing guys is the last piece of the puzzle."
World light-heavyweight champion Dawson had dropped down to the 12-stone division for the bout and afterwards confirmed that he will now go back up to his favoured weight.
