Holyfield to face Valuev for WBA title
Other Sports, 10:50, November 14, 2008 ,
Evander Holyfield will aim to become the oldest heavyweight title-holder ever when he meets Russia's WBA champion Nikolai Valuev.
The 46-year-old, who will go head-to-head with Valuev at the Hallenstadion in Zurich, Switzerland on December 20, has not fought since losing an unanimous decision to then-WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov 12 months ago.
Victory for Holyfield will see him take the crown of fellow American George Foreman, who won the IBF and WBA crowns in 1994 when he knocked out Michael Moorer at the age of 45. However, he is a massive underdog against Valuev, who is 7ft tall and over 100 pounds heavier.
Despite being favourite, Valuev, who regained the WBA title with a win over John Ruiz in August, is not going to take Holyfield lightly.
He said: "I'm taking this fight very seriously.
"Holyfield is a strong opponent, and 10 years ago I would not have dreamed of getting into the ring with this champion."
Despite being crowned world champion four times during his illustrious 24-year career, Holyfield has only won five of 11 fights since 2001 and currently holds a 49-9-2 career record.
