Amir Khan will use a jibe made by Danny Garcia's father that he is an "overrated fighter" as motivation against his July 14 opponent.
The Bolton fighter will attempt to repair the damage from his controversial defeat by Lamont Peterson in Washington last December when he takes on the WBC light-welterweight belt holder at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Khan was expected to face Peterson in a rematch but the fight collapsed when the American tested positive for testosterone.
Now he has the chance to stop Golden Boy Promotions stable-mate Garcia in his tracks and should not need any more motivation that a barbed comment made by Garcia's father.
Garcia's father, Angel, told a press conference in Los Angeles: "Khan is an overrated fighter. Peterson whupped him like an octopus and then he blamed it on the judges."
Khan responded by saying: "Danny's father does a lot of talking, but at the end of the day he's not the one who's going to be in the ring.
"When I beat your son am I still going to be overrated? We will see what happens."
