New date for Khan's world bid

Other Sports, 10:47, June 16, 2009 ,

Amir Khan will now meet Andreas Kotelnik in a world title fight at the MEN Arena in Manchester on July 18 because of a delay.

WBA light-welterweight champion Kotelnik has a tooth infection and would not have been ready in time for the original fight on June 27 at the O2 Arena and the London venue is not available for the new date.
Bolton fighter Khan is moving up a division from lightweight to take on Kotelnik for his first attempt at world title glory and the 22-year-old has vowed to be in top shape under the stewardship of trainer Freddie Roach.
Khan revealed: "I'm delighted that the fight is still on, and when July 18 comes I will never be more ready for him although the postponement is a pain.
"These things happen so I have to be professional and stay focused. However, when I'm crowned world champion it will make up for it.
"Freddie Roach is adjusting my training accordingly so that I'm ready for the new date and I'm at my peak both physically and mentally."
