Manny Pacquiao lost his WBO welterweight title in controversial circumstances as Timothy Bradley claimed a shock split points decision.
The Philippines fighter fell to his first defeat in seven years in Las Vegas after two judges scored the bout 115-113 in the undefeated Bradley's favour. The other judge had Pacquiao ahead by the same margin. The decision was roundly booed and a rematch looks likely later this year, though Bradley felt he won the fight fair and square. "I thought I won. I didn't think he was as good as everyone says he was. I didn't feel his power," said the American. Having been on the back foot for much of the fight, Bradley enjoyed his best moments in the last three rounds. However, the crowd jeered when the judges returned their verdicts. "Can you believe that? Unbelievable," promoter Bob Arum said. "I went over to Bradley before the decision and he said, 'I tried hard but I couldn't beat the guy'." Pacquiao admitted he was shocked by the verdict: "I respect the decision but 100 per cent I believe I won the fight. I don't even remember if he hurt me one punch."
