Mark Cavendish took his third victory of the 2012 Giro d'Italia on Friday after cruising home in first place on stage 13.

The world champion has had an up-and-down Giro so far, previously winning twice while also being involved in high-speed crashes on both the third and ninth stages.
With Friday's race being the last truly flat stage of the race, Cavendish was understandably desperate to win to help him hold on to the red points journey and his Sky team-mates were prominent throughout the day, controlling the pace of the peloton.
However, their train was nearly derailed by GreenEdge when they tried to set up Matt Goss in the final straight, but Cavendish once again showed his class by coming through to take the win ahead of Katusha's Alexander Kristoff.
With the majority of the bunch finishing together, the overall standings remain the same and Spain's Joaquim Rodriguez will once again wear the pink leader's jersey during Saturday's 14th stage to Cervinina where he will be looking to extend his 17-second advantage over Canadian Ryder Hesjedal.
