The youngest man in this year's Tour de France, Thibaut Pinot, timed a solo breakaway to perfection to win the eighth stage.
The FDJ-BigMat rider attacked with two kilometres to go on the Col de la Foix and held off the chasing pack to take his maiden grand tour stage victory. Race leader Bradley Wiggins maintained his 10 second lead as both he and Team Sky colleague Chris Froome managed to once again hold off a late attack from last year's winner Cadel Evans. After two days of arduous mountains, the general classification contenders must now switch themselves into time trial mode on Monday for what promises to be one of the most important days of Tour, as they race against the clock from Arc-et-Senans to Besancon.
