Bradley Wiggins has been forced to withdraw from the Tour of Britain after being struck down by a stomach bug.
This year's Tour de France winner failed to start stage six of the eight day race in the Welsh mountains due to the illness and Team Sky have now confirmed he was withdrawn from the Tour all together.
Team Sky tweeted on Friday morning: "Unfortunately, Bradley Wiggins was unable to start stage six of the Tour of Britain today after picking up a stomach bug."
Wiggins had little chance of winning his home tour after a disappointing event for Team Sky, himself and world champion Mark Cavendish having struggled to recapture their Tour de France form.
Olympic gold medalist Wiggins will now move on to the Road World Championship on September 23rd, where he will hope to help Cavendish defend his crown.
Meanwhile, Australian Leigh Howard (Orica-GreenEDGE) leads the Tour of Britain, but there are expected to be a number of changes to the classification due to the large amount of climbs on stage six.
