Boyd in Posh exit link
Peterborough United, 12:26, February 23, 2010 ,
Middlesbrough are reportedly closing in on taking Peterborough's top scorer George Boyd on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
It is thought Boro boss Gordon Strachan has been interested in the 24-year-old Scottish B international since he scored against his side in November's 2-2 draw at London Road. And it now looks like they will make an offer to take Boyd to the Riverside now and complete a full-time deal in the summer.
Boyd could be used in the left midfield role vacated by Manchester City-bound Adam Johnson in January, while he has also been used as a supporting striker under new Posh boss Jim Gannon in recent weeks. And, the fact he has scored 12 goals in a struggling Posh team adds to his appeal considering Boro have found it difficult to find the net consistently this season.
It is thought the two clubs are looking to thrash out a loan fee for Boyd before a deal could go through. And Boro can expect to pay a substantial fee in the summer, possibly around the £3million which was snubbed by Blackpool for Charlie Adam in January.
