Manager Darren Ferguson has urged his Peterborough players to use Gaby Zakuani's injury as motivation for securing another season in the npower Championship.

Zakuani will miss the remaining three matches of the season after dislocating his shoulder in the 4-1 defeat at Leeds at the weekend. The influential defender, who is set to see a specialist on Friday to determine the extent of the injury, has been one of the outstanding performers for Posh this season despite playing through the pain of a broken toe for much of the campaign. A Peterborough win against title-chasing Southampton on Tuesday night, or Millwall avoiding defeat at third-from-bottom Coventry, would confirm Championship safety for Posh while a point effectively secures survival too. Ahead of the game at London Road, Ferguson said: "Gaby's performance on the pitch and in the dressing room has been outstanding all season. If the players need any extra motivation to make sure we stay in the Championship then they should use Gaby's injury. "Gaby deserves another crack at the Championship. Hopefully we will have him fit and raring to again in the division next season. His absence (against Southampton) is obviously a blow, but Craig Alcock has played well there before and he will do so again."
