Ferguson to cut down on Cup changes
Peterborough United, 17:55, August 11, 2009 ,
Krystian Pearce is set to make his competitive debut for Peterborough in place of Craig Morgan for the Carling Cup clash at Wycombe.
Posh boss Darren Ferguson is certain to pitch Pearce into action as defender, Morgan, is away on international duty with Wales. Strike ace Craig Mackail-Smith is fit to start despite his lack of pre-season football, but Paul Coutts is struggling with a knock he picked up at Derby on Saturday and will be rested for the game at Adams Park against the League One new boys.
Meanwhile defender Russell Martin will hope to make an appearance against his former club after missing the 2-1 defeat at Pride Park.
Ferguson is looking for his players to progress to the second round, but knows they cannot afford to be complacent which is why he will not field a weakened line up.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I will be playing my strongest possible team and I won't be making many changes.
"We want a bit of consistency in terms of team selection and we want a positive result."
He added: "We aren't good enough to be tinkering or rotating. We know it will be a difficult game.
"It's one of the hardest draws we could have got. They have just won promotion so they will have momentum."
