Peterborough midfielder Lee Frecklington admits being transfer-listed by boss Darren Ferguson 12 months ago was the "kick in the teeth" he needed.
Frecklington looked like he was heading for the exit door at London Road after an injury-hit 2010/11 campaign but he returned in pre-season and impressed the management with his performances and fitness levels.
The former Lincoln trainee knows that he cannot afford to be complacent when he returns with the rest of the squad in July and he is determined to build on a decent Championship campaign.
"Last year was difficult as I found myself on the transfer list, but to be honest it was probably the kick in the teeth that I needed," Frecklington told the club's official website. "I knew I had to pull my finger out and I went away last summer, came back fit and raring to go and I enjoyed pre-season. Then the manager gave me a chance to play and I think I started well.
"To get back in the team and start 38 games was an achievement for me. I have had a bad time at this football club in the main so it was vitally important that I came back and tried to get back in the team and demonstrate that I am a Championship player and that I can do it.
"I started the season well and scored a few goals. I managed to keep relatively fit and I just need to push on next term."
