Darren Ferguson said he was pleased his players had made the step up to the second tier after seeing them snatch a point from at Derby.

A fine finish from substitute David Ball rescued a point for Posh nine minutes from time after Theo Robinson had put the home side in front in the first half. Ferguson said: "I'm delighted with where we've finished, because we could have fallen a few places. "And I didn't want it to be the case of if other results had gone against us and we finished fourth bottom then people may suggest it's only because Portsmouth got deducted points, so we've done our job and all credit to my players for that." The former Preston boss admitted his side had been on the back foot for much of the game, but picked out substitute Ball for praise after his neat finish denied the Rams victory. Ferguson added: "We had to ride our luck at times, but a great goal has got us a draw. It was a great run, a very clever run. He's run inside the full-back, a great pass and a great finish."
