James Sage has signed his first professional contract at Peterborough after impressing boss Darren Ferguson.

The 17-year-old defender had trials with Northampton and Leicester before settling in the Posh youth Academy. Ferguson has recently stated his desire to build next season's squad around youth rather than experience. "James has improved massively and fair credit to the boy for that. He has got better and better and when he has trained with the first team he has looked comfortable," Ferguson told the Milton Keynes Citizen. "He can play at left-back or centre-back, but I think he is better at centre-back. We have high hopes, but we don't want to get carried away. "We have to make sure we continue to bring the youngsters through, it is as simple as that."
