Tony Adams has told veteran defender Linvoy Primus he could yet win his place back at Portsmouth this season.
Fratton Park's longest-serving player returned to training on Monday for the first time since his loan spell with Championship strugglers Charlton ended.
The 25-year-old proved he was over his long-standing knee problems by playing 10 times for the Addicks and Adams has hinted he could feature again for Pompey.
He said: "Linvoy has trained so he's back in the frame. I don't think he's fit enough to actually be playing, that was his first training session.
"It's lovely to have him around the place again, that's what we need, we need Portsmouth people who want to play for Portsmouth.
"The squad is tight anyway. It's a good squad but it's not 50 players.
"In recent weeks I've had Marc Wilson at right-back so there are good opportunities here for people who want to come and play."
