Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is ready to raid old club Portsmouth for centre-back Sylvain Distin in the January transfer window.
Redknapp is on the lookout for a quality centre-back in the new year and has been heavily linked with a bid for Distin, who could be available on the cheap from Fratton Park as he only has 18 months left on his current deal.
The Spurs boss is a big admirer of the Frenchman having signed him from Manchester City on a free transfer last year when he was in charge of Portsmouth and the 31-year-old is believed to be keen on a move to White Hart Lane.
Spurs need defensive reinforcements with captain Ledley King unable to play more than one game in a week because of his ongoing knee problems while the injury-prone Jonathan Woodgate picked up a knock against Manchester United on Saturday.
Pompey boss Tony Adams has made it quite clear he will resist any efforts from Redknapp to try and steal away players in his current first team and it looks as though he is going to be put to the test.
