Points penalty for Pompey

Portsmouth, 11:28, March 17, 2010 ,

Portsmouth have received a nine-point penalty from the Premier League after the club went into administration.

Administrator Andrew Andronikou admitted he would have liked to have fought the decision to dock the club points, but did not have the time as a March 27 cut-off date had been set.
If the Premier League issue had not been sorted out by March 27, Pompey would have had to carry a 10 point penalty over to next season instead.
The nine point penalty leaves Pompey with just 10 points and 17 points adrift of safety, with only nine league games remaining.
