Takeover on track for July

Portsmouth, 13:02, June 29, 2009 ,

Sulaiman Al Fahim's proposed takeover at Portsmouth remains on track to go through by the middle of July, a spokeman claims.

The Dubai-born property magnate has seen his bid to take control at Fratton Park heavily scutinised amid claims Thaksin Shinawatra was involved and that there would be problems completing the Premier League's fit and proper person test.
However, a spokesman for Al Fahim, Ivo Ilic Gabara, has now moved to clarify the situation and set the record straight.
He told the News: "Sulaiman knew the acquisition of a Premier League club would attract significant media attention and was ready to meet that.
"We are doing everything we can to inform the public and, in particular, Portsmouth Football Club supporters. But unfortunately there are still a lot of misleading stories about.
"We are trying to share as much as we possibly can - but it comes to this. The offer was made and the memorandum was signed and the next stage was due diligence.
"The process is exactly according to what we anticipated. Both parties are very committed to this and working in a cooperative way. The timing has always been for the very beginning of July and we are still looking at that."
Once due diligence is completed it is thought the fit and proper person test will take a week which will mean the takeover is on course for the middle of next month.
