Burnley's Robbie Blake is the latest name to be linked with a move to Preston as Darren Ferguson looks to make his mark at Deepdale.
The attacking midfielder has recently lost his place in the Clarets starting line-up although he has been used regularly since as a substitute.
Even a change in management at Turf Moor hasn't made a difference to the player's fortunes and you have to go back to mid-December for his last start against Arsenal.
Blake is one of 17 senior professionals out of contract at the end of the season and its possible Brian Laws may be willing to offload him.
However, the sale of a fans' favourite to Preston would certainly not go down well with Laws' new public but that won't stop Ferguson from testing the water.
The North End boss is known to be eyeing a number of fresh faces ahead of this month's transfer deadline including a loan deal for Manchester United prospect Danny Welbeck.
