Irvine must act quick in Adam race
Preston North End, 17:24, June 16, 2009 ,
Barnsley have failed with a bid to sign Charlie Adam as Preston face strong competition for the player's signature.
North End are reportedly keeping tabs on the Rangers ace but there is interest from Barnsley, Reading and local rivals Blackpool - where he spent time on loan last season - as the race for the player starts to hot up.
Barnsley have gone as far as making a bid but it fell short of Rangers' £500,000 valuation and it was subsequently turned down.
"He did very well at Blackpool and played very well against us," admitted Tykes boss Simon Davey. "What he would bring to the squad is a winning mentality.
"However, Rangers turned the bid down and there's a price we won't go over, so we have to find the right price."
Lilywhites boss Alan Irvine will now have to move quickly if they want to conclude a deal but they would also have to meet the £500,000 asking price.
