Queens Park Rangers are believed to be readying a bid for Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov as he seeks a new challenge.

United want around £5m for the 31-year-old who had been tipped for a move to Galatasaray, until the Turkish side came out yesterday to deny speculation that they had tabled a bid for him. The Bulgarian international is desperate to secure a move away from Old Trafford, as he knows his opportunities will be limited again following the emergence of Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez behind leading striker Wayne Rooney. West Ham and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with Berbatov, but Rangers boss Mark Hughes is determined to fight them for his signature as he looks to bolster his front line. Hughes has already been extremely active in the transfer market with no fewer than seven new faces arriving at Loftus Road, as he bids to avoid a repeat of last season's relegation dogfight. However, his hopes of landing Berbatov could be dashed as he wouldn't be able to offer the former Spurs hitman top-flight European football in the upcoming season.
