Defender fitness fillip

Reading, 17:08, June 15, 2009

Long-term absentee Ivar Ingimarsson looks like being fit for the start of Reading's pre-season campaign after five months out.

The centre-back, described by Steve Coppell as his best signing for Reading, picked up a serious knee injury in January and his presence was missed in the second half of the season.
Ingimarsson was forced to undergo surgery to resolve the cartilage damage suffered but is now targeting a place in the squad for the start of the new campaign.
The Icelandic international, who has made over 230 appearances for the Royals, will be keen to make an impact this summer to prove to new manager Brendan Rodgers that he deserves a place in the side.
