Defoe link dismissed

Reading boss Brian McDermott has dismissed speculation suggesting the Royals are keen on Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.
McDermott has already lured Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak to the Madejski Stadium and reports have claimed he would also like Defoe alongside him in a new look strike force.
The Royals boss has cash to spend and was linked with a £10million swoop for the striker, who could be ready to leave White Hart Lane in search of regular first-team football.
Reading could offer him that but McDermott has played down the reports and when asked if he was interested in the England international he replied 'no'.
McDermott would not be the first manager to dismiss a transfer link only to complete a deal further down the line and it is hard to imagine he would not be interested in a player of Defoe's quality if he did become available.
