Jobi McAnuff is set to make his Reading debut against former club Watford while captain Ivar Ingimarsson could return from injury.
Royals chief Brendan Rodgers is looking to put one over his former club and secure the Royals a first win at the Madejski Stadium at the 14th attempt as they have not picked up three points on home soil since defeating Wolves on January 27.
Rodgers returned to Vicarage Road to take McAnuff to Berkshire with him and could include him in the squad for his debut against the Hornets following his recovery from a back injury.
Striker Grzegorz Rasiak, who spent time on loan at Watford last season should start in attack for the Royals, while Simon Church and Gylfi Sigurdsson will hope to feature after scoring their first league goals in the 3-2 defeat at Peterborough last weekend.
Ingimarsson is now fully fit after nine months out with knee trouble and is pushing for a recall to the starting XI.
Republic of Ireland international Shane Long and Chris Armstrong are both still out with respective ankle and knee problems.
