McDermott keen on Royals old boy
Reading are plotting a surprise move to bring Nicky Shorey back to the club following his release this summer by West Brom.
Royals boss Brian McDermott is keen to seal a deal for the experienced full-back as his side gets ready for life in the Premier League following their promotion last season.
A number of clubs are believed to be in the running for the defender's signature but McDermott is hoping the memories of the success and form he enjoyed during his previous spell at the Madejski Stadium will tipped the scales in their favour.
He played nearly 300 times for the Royals and earned his first England call-up during his seven year stay with the club before ill-fated switch to Aston Villa in 2008.
Shorey, who is available on a free transfer, even said at the time of his move to Villa Park that he wouldn't be against a return to Reading at some point in the future and at 31 he is still has plenty of football left in him.
