Reading to hijack striker bid

Reading are ready to offer Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak more cash in an attempt to snatch him from under the noses of Fulham.
Royals boss Brian McDermott is keen to land a proven Premier League goalscorer and was impressed with the striker's six goals in 12 appearances during his short spell with the Cottagers last season. Fulham are keen to sign him on a long-term deal and Martin Jol has already offered him £20,000 a week to stay at Craven Cottage, but the player has yet to make up his mind. Reading hope to nip in and offer him bigger wages but Fulham will be hoping the fact they had him at the club last season will make them favourites to wrap up a deal. The 28-year-old, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Stuttgart in January, is now set to make a decision following Russia's shock early exit from Euro 2012.
