Reading turn to Gunter

Reading are closing in on Nottingham Forest defender Chris Gunter after Newcastle stopper Danny Simpson snubbed the Royals.

Simpson looked to be on his way to the Madejski Stadium after failing to agree a new deal with the Magpies but reports now claim the full-back is heading to Aston Villa instead.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is happy to sell to the highest bidder and it looks as though Villa have won the race for his signature.
The news comes as a blow to Brian McDermott but the Royals boss has quickly turned his attention to former Tottenham star Gunther and is close to a £2.5million swoop.
McDermott hopes to complete a double deal this week with Watford defender Adrian Mariappa, who was also thought to be a Newcastle target, set to sign before they jet off to Portugal.
