Simpson linked with Royals

Reading are reported to be lining up a move for defender Danny Simpson, who is set to leave Newcastle.

Simpson is no nearer to signing a new deal at St James' Park and the Magpies are keen to cash in this summer rather than run the risk of losing him for nothing in 12 months.
Newcastle also want the cash to fund a deal for his replacement Matthieu Debuchy and a move looks to be on the cards if the Royals can match Alan Pardew's valuation.
The Magpies are after £2million for the 25-year-old and Royals boss Brian McDermott, who has also been linked with QPR's Luke Young, is happy to pay that for a proven Premier League defender.
Danny Guthrie has already made the switch from Newcastle to Reading and there is a very good chance he could be joined by Simpson at the Madejski Stadium.
