Striker bid fails

Reading, 12:10, November 25, 2009

Reading boss Brendan Rodgers has reportedly had a move for Chelsea forward Fabio Borini rejected by the Premiership leaders.

The Italy Under 21 international is on the verge of a first team place at Stamford Bridge, but Rodgers had hoped to bring him to the Madejski Stadium in order to give him some first team experience and boost his flagging strike force.

Chelsea are said to have blocked the move because of the prospect of losing Didier Drogba who will be going to the African Cup of Nations in January.

"Unfortunately in the last 10 days I've had two possibilities that didn't happen," Rodgers told the Chronicle "But I won't bring anyone in for the sake of it. The need to be the right person with the right DNA."
