Striker swoop ruled out

Reading boss Brian McDermott has also dismissed the rumours suggesting he has made an offer for Shane Long.

Reports had claimed that the Royals had made a move to bring the striker back to the Madejski Stadium by offering £5.5million, something that was quickly denied by Steve Clarke. The Baggies boss says no offers have been made and none are welcome as he figures prominently in his plans for the forthcoming Premier League campaign. McDermott has now also denied a move is on the cards and says he is not interested in the striker. The Royals chief says the cheque book is closed for now and there are no plans to make further signings.
