Summer signings hopeful of Dale debuts

Rochdale are hopeful new signings Ian Craney and Ray Putterill will be registered in time to face Barnsley in their Capital One Cup first-round tie.

The pair have been training with the first team throughout the club's pre-season preparations and have joined on non-contract terms after impressing manager John Coleman.
Dale will, however, be without reserve goalkeeper Matthew Edwards, who is ruled out with a wrist injury.
Edwards is joined on the sidelines by Reece Gray after he suffered an horrendous leg break in pre-season, dislocating an ankle, fracturing a tibia and snapping medial ligaments in a behind-closed-doors fixture.
Better news from Coleman is that summer signings Dele Adebola, Phil Edwards and Matty Pearson are all available, as is new club captain Peter Cavanagh.
