Evans happy with Millers mood

Rotherham United, Latest news update:

Rotherham manager Steve Evans insists he has not had to lift his players in training this week.

The Millers slumped to a dismal 3-1 home defeat to bottom-of-the-table Bristol Rovers last weekend, which came on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Barnet, and they slipped down to ninth in League Two.
But Evans, who admitted he may have got his team selection and tactics wrong against Rovers, is happy with the mood in the squad.
"It's not been about lifting them, because we never smashed them down," he told Press Association Sport. "It's been a week where we have had to say the last two performances haven't been good enough.
"We have to look in before we can look out and with the benefit of hindsight I can say I would have picked a different team and system and the players can probably say they need to do a little bit more.
"We had a real positive meeting, training has been bright, but it has been all season. People say I have lost the dressing room and they don't want to play for me, but everything is geared up to us playing 19 cup finals."
The Millers' supporters rounded on their manager and team after Saturday's defeat, but Evans remained focused on the task in hand.
"You have to distance yourself from the criticism and focus on getting the team right. It's a perception of doom and gloom and that's all it is," he added.
"Our performances haven't been right for the last two matches and that's my responsibility and it's my responsibility to get it right.
"Part of the reason I joined Rotherham was because of the size of the club. Ronnie Moore told me when I joined that the fans will back me to the hilt, but if it wasn't right they'd tell me. The last two performances have not been good enough and well below what the supporters would expect."
