McRae keen to tie up Myler
Rugby League, 12:40, June 20, 2009 ,
Salford coach Shaun McRae is keen for Richie Myler to make a decision about his future as he feels it is affecting his game.
The 19-year-old leapt to the attention of the rugby league world with an outstanding performance as England crushed France by 66 points to 12.
The Reds have offered the talented youth deal to become the best paid player in their history but have received no reply from the player at present.
Myler scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked eight goals against France and has put in some exciting performances for Salford in Super League this term.
But he was below-par on Friday night as Salford were beaten by Hull and McRae feels it is time to sort out his future so he can just concentrate on playing the game.
"What we have to do is deal with it very quickly for the sake of us and Richard," he said.
"The thing is, it's not going to go away until Richard either says 'yes' or, in the worse-case scenario, he says 'thanks but no thanks' and then we have to respond.
"But it's not easy. He's been courted because he's a gifted player. He's a talent in the game we've all seen come along very quickly.
"It doesn't surprise me he gets this attention and it doesn't surprise me the situation we're in.
"I think he was a bit flat (on Friday). I half thought about not playing him this week.
"He came back from that Test last week and he's getting attention for the right reasons and he's getting attention for what's happening off the field.
"He looked a little flat in the first part of the week. I don't think he was poor, I just thought he was a bit flat."
