Salford coach Phil Veivers has revealed the club look set to lose half-back Matty Smith to rivals Wigan Warriors ahead of next season.

The highly-rated 24-year-old, who has been a standout performer for the City Reds this season, has also been linked with the likes of Widnes Vikings and St Helens. Salford were hoping to keep hold of Smith but it looks like the Warriors will swoop in for the player, who is set to line up for the England Knights this weekend against Ireland. Veivers is disappointed to be losing Smith, as he expects the talented playmaker to be in the red and white of Wigan in the Super League next season. He told BBC Radio Manchester: "I'm pretty sure it's a done deal. Well, I'm not pretty sure, I'm dead certain that's going to happen. "My job is to find a replacement or to develop someone to replace Matty."
