Warrington Wolves boss Tony Smith is willing to give Lee Briers as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of the weekend.
With their Challenge Cup semi-final with Huddersfield Giants on Sunday edging ever closer, time is running out for Briers, who has been suffering with an Achilles problem.
The 34-year-old playmaker was missing from the 15-6 victory over Catalan Dragons on Monday due to the injury and is a doubt for the semi-final at the Salford City Stadium.
However Smith is hoping the former Wales international will be fit to take on the Giants and is set to give the player as much time as he can to recover.
He told Sky Sports: "Fingers crossed. I'll tell you on game day.
"It's been a matter of nurturing him through training and if we get that right he's able to play. If we don't get it right he comes up short.
"It's a fine line. We're hopeful. We're hopeful that because he hasn't played in games in the past couple of weeks that he may be able to make it. I won't be able to tell you for definite until Sunday afternoon."
