St Helens stalwart set for shock exit
Rugby League, 11:48, May 21, 2009 ,
Sean Long is set to end his 12-year stint at St Helens at the end of the season after being told he can speak to other clubs.
The 32-year-old, who has played an integral part in the club's five Challenge Cup wins and four Super League titles in his time at Knowsley Road, is due to fall out of contract after this current campaign. The Saints are only offering him a one-year deal and Long has admitted that he will have to end his dream of finishing his career at the club if a two-year contract is put on the table elsewhere.
"Obviously I'd like to stop at St Helens to finish my career but, if another club comes in with a two-year deal, I've got to consider it," he told BBC Sport.
Long, who is due to hold more talks about his future with St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus at the end of May, added: "He said there will be an offer on the table but it will probably only be a one-year deal.
"He's given me the option to speak to other clubs so I may as well see what's out there.
"It would absolutely kill me (to leave). I've made some great friends here. I love the club, I love the style of rugby we play. The fans have always been fantastic with me.
"Hopefully I can get it sorted out and finish my career at St Helens."
