Wigan chief steps down after Saints defeat
Rugby League, 11:47, October 4, 2009 ,
Brian Noble has confirmed that he has stepped down as Wigan coach following their 14-10 Super League play-off defeat at St Helens.
The former Great Britain and Bradford Bulls coach has been in charge of the Warriors since April 2006, but he is now out of contract and recently told owner Ian Lenagan that he would leave at the end of the season.
Noble, whose hopes of leading Wigan out at next Saturday's Super League Grand Final against Leeds Rhinos at Old Trafford for his final game at the helm were dashed by St Helens on Saturday, played down suggestions he is now set to take over at Welsh side Celtic Crusaders.
"I will be moving on and the club will move on without me," he said.
"But hopefully I leave a fantastic legacy with some good young blokes coming through and a bridge well built.
"I've invested a lot of time and effort in the place but I'm very, very proud of what I've achieved. History will say that the legacy that I've left will be there for time to come."
He added: "I'll be getting a couple of beers first and I'll be getting my knee fixed because I've been letting that go for four or five years.
"And then we'll see what opportunities are out there."
