Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips has been suspended by Bayonne until further notice, the club have confirmed.
Phillips also faces a financial penalty after the Top 14 side decided to take action after allegations of off-field misconduct.
Phillips' team-mate Cedric Heymans has also been suspended by Bayonne for an unrelated incident - the France wing criticised club supporters in the local press.
"There will be no exceptions or excuses," Alain Afflelou, chairman of Bayonne's board of directors, said in a statement.
"All players are now warned - the club will no longer allow misconduct on the part of players, and they may be exposed to greater penalties.
"We have enough quality young players at the club. Just because some are bigger names, it does not mean they are protected and above the group.
"Through these measures, I also want to preserve the vast majority of players who give back and get involved on a daily basis for the good of the club."
It remains to be seen if Phillips will be able to resurrect his career with Bayonne or if the Wales star, who has 67 caps, will have to move on.
