Steve Hansen described New Zealand's 18-18 draw with Australia as "one of the ugliest games of rugby" he has been involved in.
Dan Carter missed a drop-goal attempt six minutes into injury time as the Wallabies ended the All Blacks' winning run in the final Bledisloe Cup Test in Brisbane. The world champions were chasing their 17th consecutive victory but were denied by a depleted Australia. The Australians looked on course for a stunning win with a 15-6 lead after 51 minutes, only for Hansen's side to take a three-point advantage into the final nine minutes. Full-back Mike Harris levelled the score minutes later to set up a gripping finale, before Carter missed a last-gasp drop-goal. Hansen felt his team were well below-par and almost gifted the bragging rights to their trans-Tasman rivals. "We're really, really disappointed - too many avoidable penalties and too many avoidable mistakes," said the All Blacks coach. "It was probably one of the ugliest games of rugby that I've been involved in."
