Former Wales forward Emyr Lewis believes players in the national side will have to improve after a slow start to their club campaigns.
Only the Ospreys have recorded a win in the Heineken Cup this season so far, with the Scarlets and the Cardiff Blues struggling in the European competition.
The Wales squad are currently at their training camp in Poland preparing for their Test matches with Argentina, Samoa, New Zealand and Australia starting next month.
Lewis, who earned 41 caps for his country, believes the current crop of players must improve if they are to pull off wins against their southern hemisphere opponents.
He said: "I'm concerned at the way the regions are playing at the moment.
"Hopefully our key players can start playing better. They do seem to raise their game when they play for Wales.
"I don't know whether it's the fact that they respond better to the coaching set-up with Wales."
